Two reasons Katniss was saved & not Peeta: #1 - Johanna cut the tracking device out of Katniss' left arm so the Capitol couldn't locate her and #2 - Haymitch & Heavensbee got to her first with the District 13 hovercraft.
its because once the force field was destroyed the capitol came and tried to get the tributes before anyone else so haymitch and his group could only get who they could reach and katniss was the most important because out of her and peeta she defied the capitol at an earlier stage!
IDK. I read that ending 5,000000000000 times and I still never got it. I can honnestly say that this is not the book I thought it would be and wtf?! Gale beet someone with a turkey?

gale did not beat someone with a turkey. here's what happened, gale was out hunting (which is illegal) and was going to bring the turkey to cray because he knows cray would want it. but what gale didn't expect was that cray had been replaced da someone else who was much stricter about the rules. and that is why he was whipped, because the new guy saw the (illegal) turkey.
if both of them had been saved then katniss would have less cause to go up against the capitol in the third book, which i'm sure is in the makings for successivo year
Apart from what Bigbookfan and Lea4 said, it's also because the Capitol likes Peeta più than Katniss. Peeta might be tortured for information, but because he's not the instigator, they probably won't kill him. They hate Katniss, so she would almost certainly be dead. Still, it's sad that they're separated though, isn't it?
