so this is the last chapter in this series, but it won't be the last I write about Fin. I just wanted to establish his family and complessivamente, generale personality ^^ I do plan on bringing all my characters into one story eventually. I just need to figure out the details first

He awoke to a steady beeping sound... Where was he? What had happened? He opened one of his eyes, squinting as his eyes adjusted to the bright sunlight streaming in through the window of his hospital room. He heard voices behind him just outside of the door to his room.

"This is... Remarkable. The boy made it out of there with nothing più than smoke inhalation, o so the paramedics said. There's no signs currently and no permanent damage to his lungs"

"Incredible!" the secondo voice murmured. "the boy was very lucky indeed" 

"this is scientifically imposs-" the voice suddenly cut off and the door to Fin's room flew open. There his mother stood, looking extremely over tired and worried. She had a huge bundle on helium balloon in her left hand and Fin's childhood teddy orso in her right. Her face lit up when she saw that he was awake.

"My baby! Oh thank goodness!" she practically threw the orso out of her hands, and let go of her grasp on the balloons, letting them hit the ceiling of the room. She ran over and threw her arms around her son, near tears. 

"mom, it's okay. I'm perfectly fine" he said, awkwardly returning the hug. "please just don't cry okay?" she nodded as she pulled back, wiping the tears from her eyes. 

"Leaving school, punching holes in walls, running into a burning building! I don't know what te were thinking!" she sounded as if she wanted to be angry, but she just couldn't. "You're just too much like your father. He would be so proud" she smiled weakly. 

He returned the smile. He wished he could be the man his dad had been. Strong, smart, always doing the right thing. He'd been a part of the Gotham police. He had died when Fin was just six years old. He had been off duty and attempted to stop the robbery of a small grocery store, protecting the cashier. He was shot and killed doing so. "... Where's Syd?" He'd just now noticed the absence of his thirteen anno old sister.

"She's staying at Margaret's place, te know our neighbor down the hall? She wanted to stay, but I sent her home. She was exhausted." His mother responded, yawning herself.

He chuckled. The concept of his little sister being worried for him seemed really bizarre. After all, she normally wouldn't be caught dead caring about her weird, embarrassing older brother. "Mom, te should have gone home too, te look awful" 

"Sweety, I wouldn't have been getting any più rest home than I did here" she said, brushing the hair away from his forehead. 

"...Mom, do te know what happened to that woman I saved? She didn't look so good." he was quite anxious to get a response, after all the lady had been in pretty rough shape.

"she's in the ICU. She's had some pretty serious smoke inhalation, but they expect her to pull through. You're a hero" she beamed. He felt awkward, but was relieved that the woman had survived. There was a sudden knock at the door and a nurse walked in with a large vase filled with flowers.

 "Goodness! More?" she turned back to her son. "So many people have sent flowers, Our house is starting to look like a garden! I would have left them here for te honey, but your doctor has allergies."

"S'okay mom" he glanced over at the nurse. "Who is it from?" 

"I'm not sure, but there's a card in it" the nurse smiled. She walked over, handing Fin the card before placing the vase of fiori on the side tavolo before turning to leave the room. For a moment he tried to open the card carefully, but in the end gave up and just tore it open. He opened the card open and a slip of paper fell out of it.  Reaching for the paper, Fin unfolded it and his mouth fell open in shock. It was a receipt. 

His mother began to look concerned "What is it Finny?" 

"Someone paid for school mom... Both mine and Sydney's" he was too shocked to be excited

"What?! Who?! Who paid for it?!" his mom's voice became shrill and emotional

"I-I don't know! It says an anonymous donation! The card just says 'bravery should rewarded'" his mother began crying again and hugging her son, sobbing with joy.
 
Dick stood in the hall outside of the room smiling. The guy deserved it. Convincing Bruce to pay for it hadn't been that hard. He glanced down at his watch, deciding he'd been standing there too long. He turned back down the hallway and headed towards the elevator. Maybe he would pay that McGuire guy another visit sometime as Robin. After all, there was extra room at the base.
