“Ouch! You’re practically ripping my hair out!”
I was seated on the bathroom counter in the cave. Fin, who was still in her civvies, had a fistful of my hair in her hand and was attempting to braid it.
“Sorry,” she replied, slightly exasperated. “It’s just so...thick.” She loosened her grasp, closing her fist around the end of the braid to prevent it from unraveling. “You know, maybe we should just leave your hair down,” she remarked. “It’s just so hard to work with.” I nodded, and she carefully unbraided it. Surveying her work, she smiled. “It actually looks really pretty this way. Wally will be impressed.”
I turned to face the mirror. I didn’t actually look that bad, I realized, despite how much I hated it. Fin had picked my entire outfit, and I was wearing a purple and green ruffly camicia with a brown band across the middle, a matching ruffly skirt, and ballet flats. She had also helped me put on makeup, which she had told me really accentuated the blue and green in my eyes, although it made my skin crawl underneath the thick cakes of powder. My hair fell in dark waves around my shoulders; it was even più curly than usual since it had just been in a braid. The only part of the outfit that I couldn’t stand was the earrings--giant golden hoops that made my ears feel like they would be pulled down to my neck da the end of the night. Fin had insisted they were cute, though, so they had to stay.
What had I gotten myself into, I wondered, da saying yes to Wally? For me, this was worse than being tortured and attacked da the enemies; in fact, I would take torture over this any day. I had no idea what had come over me that afternoon, but there was no changing my mind now. At that moment, there was a soft knock on the bathroom door, and it swung open to reveal Wally standing sheepishly in the doorway. His red hair was slicked back, and he was sporting a sleek black suit, complete with a dark purple tie and a pale rosa rose pinned to his lapel. He smiled. “You ready, Aisling?”
I nodded. I would never tell him this, but as ridiculously overdressed he was, he actually looked kind of cute. I blushed a little at the thought, and he grinned. “Let’s go then, shall we?”
Before I could react, he had seized my hand and was pulling me in the direction of the zeta tubes, where Megan and Connor were already waiting. Fin followed close behind, and Robin, who was also in civvies, joined her. Aqualad, who hadn’t seemed to care that he was single, was nowhere in sight, as was Nathan--although I was pretty sure that the latter did have feelings about the issue--, but Artemis was there, and she smirked as we walked in.
“Wally has a girlfriend?” she sneered. I ignored it, but Wally’s face was indignant. “Shut up, Artemis! Just because you’re single!”
She didn’t respond. I realized that all the others had already left through the zeta tubes, and apparently Wally noticed it too. “Ladies first,” he said, still smiling, as he beckoned towards the beam. I stepped into the light. Recognized: Tiger Storm. B09.

An ora later, we were seated at the East St. Café. It was a charming little place, with a small interior and a larger patio riddled with umbrellas advertising some brand of hot dog and heatlamps that overlooked East strada, via in Gotham. We were sitting at a large tavolo on the patio, surrounded da three o four of the heat lamps, which we wished to remain unlit. The hostess had been surprised da this, but we had simply told her that we weren’t cold. In reality, Fin had made a small fuoco under the table, that was much più effective than a heat lamp. Apart from us, the patio was empty.
We had just finished dessert, and Wally was leaning back in his chair, hands on his belly. Fin and Robin were joking and laughing, and Megan was trying to strike up conversation with Connor, who remained stony faced and silent. The café’s sole waitress was circling like a hawk, traveling between the inside and the patio. Although there were a few people seated inside; a family with a cranky baby and a young couple probably in their late twenties, it was clear she was bored. Wally stood up and waved her in. “The check, please,” he told her. She nodded and disappeared back into the depths of the restaurant. The tavolo fell silent until Megan voiced the concern that we were all thinking. “Who’s going to pay?”
We all stared at each other tensely, and then Fin bent down and rummaged in her borsa under the table. “Fin, no,” Robin hissed at her. “They’re gonna find ou--”
She kicked him to shut him up; he responded with a sharp cry of pain. She emerged with a thin golden wallet. Sliding out a credit card, she said, “I’ll pay.”
We all gaped at her. “W-where the hell did te get that?” Wally exclaimed, losing a bit of his composure. She gave a sly smile. “Places.”
My first thought was that she had stolen it, but that seemed to go against everything I knew about her. Still, though, I couldn’t make assumptions. At that moment, I felt a sudden warmth in my hand. I looked down to find that Wally’s hand had crept into mine, and he was grasping it tightly. His skin was soft and smooth, and it actually felt nice. The check came, and Wally passed it over to Fin, his left hand still in mine. He was leaning in closer to me, and it felt like he was radiating warmth, o maybe it was me. My cuore was fluttering, my forehead was dripping with sweat, my eyes felt like they could only look into his; that if they turned away they would be clouded forever. Was I in love? I didn’t want to think that I was, yet at the same time, I did. Fin had dato the check to the waitress now to be processed, Megan had finally gotten Connor to speak, and, overcome with a sudden rush of tiredness, I rested my head on his arm. His hand was stroking my hair slightly, a gesture he had tried to do before, but this time, I didn’t mind. I didn’t even notice that we were leaving, but somehow my legs, no, they were not legs, they were gelatina now, stood myself up and walked me over into the alleyway. We slid into the phone booth, and Robin stepped into the familiar blaze of the zeta beam. That brought me back to the present. Abruptly, I let go of Wally’s hand. Robin stood, waiting for the familiar words: Recognized: Robin, B01.
But the words didn’t come. We waited for what felt like hours--my head, and my gauging power, must have been still foggy--, but nothing happened. Suddenly, the beam flashed red. We all gaped, not able to believe what we were seeing, when the words came. Access Denied.

What do te wish for? What if te could take the one thing te know no one would let te have? What would te do? What would te say? Would te think it's all a joke? o would te go and get it? I was like that first one. I thought it was all a joke. Nothing has ever turned out right for me so why now? Being raised in a criminal family, it's not easy to get through life. Especially when te go to Gotham Academy. The school of all snobs. Especially one who EVERYONE knows; Dick Grayson.

I'm not calling anyone out. No, that's not...

Megan's feet swung happily under the tall tavolo as she sipped her hot drink. She had never thought that an earth drink like hot Cioccolato would be so wonderful.
“Yum!”
Becca laughed as she drank her own chocolatey beverage.
“Are te enjoying your first taste?” she asked.
Megan nodded rapidly.
“You are quite the unusual girl,” Artemis commented. “I never thought te hadn't tried so many things. So many...earth things.”
“Coming from Mars makes it challenging to try new foods, drink, o anything else. People don't really seem to notice how racially segregated they can be.”

Chapter 8-

Rome, Italy
7:23 CET December 19

The two teenagers packed their bags and checked out of the hotel before heading out into the damp, gloomy morning.

Artemis could tell Wally was determined, he hadn't eaten yet. The two marched down to the train station where they caught a train heading toward Venice.

About an ora into the trip, the two teens' tensions were running high.

"This is going to take forever!" Wally complained.

"I don't like it anymore than te do." Artemis replied.

"By the time we get there, the boats will be closed!"...

"Where is she?"

Kid Flash was standing in the middle of the training room, pacing around impatiently. The rest of his team members looked at him with a mixture of pity and amusement. Today was Artemis's first practice session and she was supposed to spar with Kid Flash.

"I'm sure she's on her way," Megan detto softly, placing a hand on his arm to try to calm him. She quickly retracted though when she saw him grin wolfishly at her, edging closer to her.

"I agree," Aqualad said, moving closer to the pair. "We have to be patient...

Chapter 7-

Rome, Italy

Artemis's communicator buzzed. What was Batman calling this early in the morning for? She picked it up and, making sure Wally was asleep, slipped out onto the roof.

"Yes?" she asked.

"Artemis," Batman's voice had a melancholy tone to it, and Artemis knew it was bad. "Your mother was abducted da Cheshire and the League of Shadows."

Artemis just stared at the screen for a moment. She started to cry.

"Don't worry." Batman said. "The Justice League is heading to save her, but it'll take a while."

"Worry?!" Artemis...

Artemis must have fallen asleep at some point before the movie ended, because just as the sky was growing dark Wally suddenly felt a weight on his arm. He managed to look successivo to him and saw that Artemis had fallen asleep on his shoulder. His first instinct was to shake her awake, but he was stopped da how relaxed she looked. Her head seemed to fit perfectly on his shoulder and she was actually smiling slightly. This didn't help Wally's predicament.

Well, um… I guess it was either my shoulder o the window, Wally thought quickly, uncomfortably aware of the heat creeping up his cheeks. So my...

When the smoke cleared, I was missing from the spot everyone had last seen me. I was high in the canopy of fake trees, looking down on Cyborg.
”Dude, I didn’t set my cannone to disintegrate…did I?” he said. Both teams were looking very pale. I grinned and jumped down, right onto Cyborg’s head. I pressed a button and vibranium sound waves emanated from my suit. They were loud enough to shut down Cyborg’s movement.
“The challenge is complete” I said. Cyborg was gaping at me.
“What? Did te not think I was female?” I asked. Then I remembered, that must’ve been what he was doing...

I turned my head sharply to look directly at him. He jumped. I looked at him through narrowed eyes. He tried to look confident, but failed. Both Kid Flashes were running laps around the room. I grabbed the one from my dimension as he ran by.
‘Stop wasting your energy! You’ll have none left to fight at this rate’ I mentally growled
‘Who detto we were fighting?’ he asked
‘He did’ I though, subtly gesturing to Control Freak.
‘He’s a fat couch-potato. What can he do?’ Wally thought
‘Haven’t te noticed? There’s no windows, no air vents, no tiny holes in the walls for air, yet...

"Hmmmmmmm---" I detto sarcastically and loudly. He sighed and took his hand off. "Promise not to tell anyone, ok?"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever."

"Artemis, checking in. All clear up here." Artemis radioed in. The rest of the Team radioed in their positions and status'.

"The parade is beginning." Robin said.

The Team had spread out along the strada, via the parade was taking place. Their was roughly one superhero every block. Artemis was the closest to the action. Her bow notched and ready, her watchful eye over the garrisons of policemen and women below her spot on Town Hall.

Aqualad was near the park where a pond conveniently located.

Robin, Miss Martian, Superboy, and Kid Flash were in order down the street.

"Why do we have to go shopping?" Wally whined.

"Because I want to." Artemis said. She hissed at him "We're supposed to be undercover!"

"A guy shopping is not undercover. Besides, why can't we be undercover at the comic store?"

Artemis rolled her eyes. She had basically had to drag Wally out into the market. Ever since he had been complaining about having to go shopping, and why he couldn't go to the comic store. Honestly he sounded like a little boy. Artemis had told him, countless times. It only bought her quiet for a minuto o two.

"Because we are American...

I really hated it when she called me da my full name. "Why can't te just call me Mel?" I groaned. She laughed and walked out of my room. "You have 35 minutes." “What's wrong Megan?” Artemis asked.
“Becca and Devin...I can't find a life fonte anywhere! They-they're gone!”
Artemis gasped and covered her hands with her mouth. Tears showed in her eyes and Kaldur comforted her. Wally watched Connor kneel da Megan, trying to console her. But Wally was più worried about Robin; his whole world was gone. Not a single person he had known from his past was alive.

I ran up the side of the mountain and started running along it, horizontal to the ground. I jumped onto the shadow, holding it down. It was a fat man with long hair and a grimy overcoat.
“Who the heck are you?” I asked
‘M’gann, get everyone out here. NOW!’ I thought. secondi later, the whole team was here. I let the fat man up.

I did some back flips and landed nicely. Someone started to clap. I whipped around to find Wally and Robin standing there.
“What do te want?” I asked, pulling down my cowl.

After the long ride home, I walked to the cave where I had been staying for the last little while. I had covered the entrance with vines, but inside was bright thanks to the oil lanterns I purchased. I also picked this particular spot because it had a constant trickle of water slashing down the side of the cave wall. I crushed up some cuore shaped herb to enhance my senses. I rubbed it on my palms and my face, then let it sit for a moment. Then, I rinsed it off, felling refreshed. Kid Flash zoomed in.

“No” I said. She roared and lunged at me, four hundred pounds of human coming right at me. I flipped over her and kicked her back. She spun around and lunged again. This time I slid under her legs.
