According to volpe (I asked) House episodes are taking twice as long to make due to High Def regulations. They also detto that they normally order like 24 episodes (can't remember exact amount). They detto that they are also trying new format of airing a few new ones together than a few weeks off instead of old format of one week new than successivo week rerun to fill up the season. This is not verbatim, but hope it helps.
