*The hatred that Hannah had for Franklin was building up inside. He was right. He was right about her. But she had a feeling, a feeling that, if she didn’t do something, he would get away with these murders. There would be no evidence, nothing to prove that he was the one responsible for the murders. She didn’t mostra any signs of hesitation for someone like him. She aimed the gun at Franklin and fired the gun at his head. He fell back, his body limp before it even hit the ground. As soon as he was dead, the world around Hannah started to fall into black as she slowly awakened.*
*William rested against the bacheca as he kept his eyes on Hannah. He waited patiently for her to get up, before his eyes turned to Franklin, his eyes widening in terror. He wasn’t breathing, he was lying on the floor, dead, with blood seeping from the superiore, in alto of his head, but with a sort of grin on his face, almost as if he had achieved something he wanted to achieve. As William’s eyes were on the now dead body of Andrew Franklin, Hannah shot up, taking a deep breath as she looked around. William turned to her, filled with many questions.*
William: Hannah! What the hell happened? Franklin, he….
Hannah: Yeah… I know. There was nothing that could’ve been done
*That was a lie. Hannah could have kept him alive, and had him arrested. But she knew that she had to do this regardless. o at least, that’s what she told herself. But she couldn’t think about that. She had to tell herself that it was the only option. Now, the nightmares have finally come to an end.*
*One week later. Franklin’s body was found da the police after William called them. It was proven that he had attacked Hannah and had intentions of killing her, but his connection to the murders was unable to be proven. Hannah was questioned da the police on what had happened, but she refused to discuss the situation with Franklin being in the dreams. She merely told the police that it was possible that he had a sudden obsession towards Hannah and wanted to get closer to her, and his death was scene as self defense. All that was clear was that Andrew Franklin’s status in the town of castagna, castagno Pines was tarnished and he would be seen as a mad man who attempted to kill one of his own students, and nothing more. But the deaths of Wendy and Sam are still a mystery to the townspeople. Hannah had dressed herself in her usual attire, ready to start her day, free of the nightmares and free of any bizarre happenings. As she stepped down the stairs, Drew stopped her before she could head to the door.*
Drew: Hannah, are te heading out? Why don’t te stay a little while? After all, te could-
Hannah: Dad, please. I understand that te are worried, but Mr. Franklin is gone. te don’t have to worry about me.
Drew: I’m afraid I can’t do that, Hannah. As your father, I always worry
Hannah: Yeah, I know dad
*Despite how she detto it, she couldn’t help but feel a little relieved to hear him say that. She was hoping that she could continue living for his sake, and that he was going to better himself for hers. It was good for her to know that both of them were trying. She gave him a smile as she made her way out the door. She had plans to meet Rebecca today, for the first time in two weeks. As she stepped outside, William was waiting outside for her, sitting da his truck. Hannah gave a sigh and walked over to him. She didn’t even get to the car before he spoke.*
William: Good to see that the injuries weren’t anything serious
Hannah: Compared to getting shot, I don’t think anything would be that serious
William: I can imagine
*William was silent before he turned to Hannah.*
William: Look, I won’t ask what happened in the nightmares between te and Franklin. I’m not saying that he shouldn’t have died. He was a son of a cagna who did horrible things… But, was there anyway to save him? Just so he can pay for his crimes?
*Hannah looked William dead in the eyes as she spoke.*
Hannah: No. There was no one to keep him alive.
William: …. I see. Well, what’s done is done. At least we know that he won’t be hurting anyone anymore. I guess that’s the best we can ask for. Well, I didn’t come to grill you. I came to check on how te were doing, make sure that Franklin didn’t seriously hurt you
Hannah: Don’t worry. My dad asked me twenty times.
William: I can imagine. A dad needs to take care of his kid, make sure nothing happens to them
*William was silent for a minute, thinking to himself in total silence, before turning to Hannah.*
William: But I won’t bother te about this anymore. The nightmares are over. You’re still a young kid. Go enjoy your youth while te can.
Hannah: I will. Thanks.
*With that, William drove down the road. Hannah let the thought linger in her mind. The nightmares really were over, finally. She was happy that it was finally over.*
*Hannah was walking down the shopping area. Rebecca’s house was on the opposite side of town. Not a long walk, but quite a distance. As Hannah was walking, she turned to see Officer Marcus sitting on a bench, drinking his coffee. Almost instantly, he turned to Hannah with a nod and a smile.*
Marcus: Oh, Ms. Asher. Do te have time
Hannah: Sure
*She sat down successivo to him on the bench, as she looked over at him.*
Marcus: Listen, I normally don’t talk to civilians about cases, but… well, te were pretty involved in parts of it yourself. I know Wendy was your friend, so it’s only fair to tell te this… even though it isn’t hard to do. Well, despite Andrew Franklin being a likely suspect, we can’t really pin the murders on him. Hell, we don’t even know if these are murders. I don’t think we’ll ever really know what happens. It hurts me to say this, but I think that the truth is just nowhere to be seen
*Hannah looked at the ground. Despite knowing the truth for herself, she still couldn’t handle the thought of the Friends and family of Wendy and Sam not knowing it. They will always be left in the dark, wondering what happened to those two. It pained her, and she slowly started to think that maybe it wasn’t for the best. As she thought, Marcus got up from the bench.*
Marcus: I have to get going. While this case may remain a mystery, I can’t just sit back and tell everyone that I’m sorry. I’m a cop, and I’m got a job to do. I’m gonna protect this town. If I can stop più of these events from happening, than I will. te can count on that, Ms. Asher
Hannah: I’m glad to hear that, Officer Marcus
*Marcus gave Hannah a smile and a tip of his police cap*
Marcus: te have a good day, Ms. Asher.
*With that, Marcus stepped inside his police car and drove off. Hannah stood up from the bench and continued her way down the shopping area.*
*It wasn’t long before Hannah was walking down the end of the shopping area. As she did so, a door flung open, almost hitting her, before stopping. She looked to see Diana stepping out from the door, and looking at her. She seemed annoyed just da the sight of Hannah, but that quickly changed to a calm expression.*
Diana: S-Sorry, I didn’t see te there
Hannah: Oh, it’s alright. No problem.
*Diana stopped herself as she looked at Hannah’s face.*
Diana: D-do I know te from somewhere?
*Hannah knew that Diana must’ve had some memory of the nightmares, but she did her best to sidetrack it.*
Hannah: Of course. We met that one time a couple weeks back. te seemed irritated then
Diana: Ah, of course. Sorry about that. I was just having a really bad day… Well, no. It wasn’t just a day. I was just feeling sorry for myself and didn’t want to accept my faults. Just one of those days, te know
Hannah: I think I know what te mean
Diana: But, I had a bit of help. I don’t know what helped me, though. Maybe I just had one of those epiphanes.
Hannah: I think I know what te mean
Diana: Ah, but don’t listen to an old woman speak. Go on, te have better things to do
*Diana waved Hannah away as she walked passed her. Though a little rusty, it was good for Hannah to see someone as cruel as Diana start to be a little più considerate of others feelings and try to better herself off. It made Hannah feel as though her actions in the nightmares were worth it in the end. Hannah tried t hide her smile as she continued down the path, turning to the dark alley she was accustomed to. But as she turned da it, her eyes couldn’t help but look down them. And her eyes widened in horror and shock. A sight she was hoping not to see. One that told her that all of her actions were for naught. At the end of the alley was the neon sign Leggere The Enigma.*
*Fear was throwing any kind of combination of drinks together in the hopes that he could create a delicious drink, with Sorrow and Hate sitting at the counter as usual. Hannah bursted through the door, as Fear turned to her with a smile.*
Fear: Hannah, it’s so good to see you. I’d offer te a drink, but I believe te are underaged.
Hannah: What the hell!? Why is this place still here? Why are te all still here?! I thought that the nightmares were supposed to end once I stopped the one responsible
Fear: Hannah, I’m sorry to tell te this but te cannot truly end the nightmares.
Hannah: What?
Fear: te can’t end the nightmares. They are a part of the creature that created them. The man te killed, the man whose blood is on your hands, he abused the power of the nightmares, but he did not create them. There is no end to the nightmares. te can subdue them, but they never truly go away. These nightmares are what humans want. And humans want punishment. That’s all there is to it
Hannah: Then why?! Why in the hell didn’t te tell me?!
Fear: Hannah, I want to help you, I do, but we are also your own nightmare. te must suffer within these dreams. It hurts me to betray you, it really does, but we are your nightmares
Sorrow: We know the things that bring te to the deepest depths of the depression
Hate: We know the things that te despise with a burning passion
Fear: And we know the things that keep te up at night, things that break te down, corrupt you. The things that scare you
Hannah: Shut up! te don’t know shit about me!
Fear: We don’t?
Sorrow: We know that te didn’t help Wendy when te had the chance. We know that te didn’t even attempt. All of this is nothing più than te hoping to redeem yourself, hoping that it will cover the guilt te hide, when that will never happen
Hate: We know that te killed Franklin for your own reasons. te lie to yourself and say that te had the right to do it, that it was justice, when really, te only did it to shut him up. te only did it to get rid of him
Fear: And we know that te are scared. We know te want these nightmares to end. The thought that they will never truly die horrifies you, Hannah
*Hannah covered her ears, trying to block out what they were saying, trying to ignore them. But their words were true. Hannah was not any different just because she saved people. She had suffering of her own. As she tried to silence it, Fear spoke up.*
Fear: The nightmares will start again, Hannah. And a new person will suffer.
Hannah: A-Another person?
Fear: Think about it, Hannah. te may have found the one abusing the power of the nightmares, but what have te forgotten. What are the clues that te still have
*Hannah tried her best to think. There was something she was missing. Franklin was the one responsible, but she remembered that there was someone else. Someone else she had forgotten about that had something to do with this incident. And then it hit her. The mystery man, Deetz. He never arrived to the meeting place, and she has yet to receive any calls from him since. There clearly was something left, and she had to prepare herself for tonight. Without another word, she rushed out of The Enigma and made her way home.*
Fear: That child is making for an interesting guest to this place.
*Hannah woke up once again in the nightmare worlds, holding onto the two pistole that she had with her, the handgun she got from Diana and the revolver William gave her. She looked down at her hand to see the farfalla tear from her hand and float outside, leading her to the new person, hopefully the last if Hannah could do so. Hannah followed the farfalla down the stairs and out of her house. The farfalla was starting to lead her down a familiar path that she knew a little too well. And it started to worry her.*
*Hannah continued to follow the farfalla through a desolate neighborhood, resembling the one that was on the other side of town. Now, Hannah had a reason to worry. She hurried toward the location, only to stop when the farfalla to stop in front of a house that she knew too well. Once that she hadn’t visited in a while. It was Rebecca’s house, now decrepit and rotted. Hannah didn’t waste a secondo to look as she ran inside. Once inside, the house was no longer a house anymore. Instead, she found herself inside a massive prison cell, far larger than the houses exterior. Along the walls were words written as Deetz, all in different sizes and handwriting. This was clearly connected in some way. She slowly stepped through the prison, the gun close to her, as she stepped inside. She only had a few bullets on her for both guns, but was able to get più from William. She stepped inside, the rusted metal and the rotted walls giving a disturbing feel, each barred door creaking harshly. Hannah stepped down the hall, the cells still lined up along the walls, as if it went on forever. She was, however, able to find a door at the end. A door that had the number 626 on it, Rebecca’s address. Hannah slowly opened the door, and saw a room filled with pillars, several of them shrinking in size as they moved upward to the ceiling. The pillars appeared fleshy and pulsating. And at the end, there was Rebecca. Her clothes was in tateres, she appeared to be dirty and bruised, like she had been here for months, but was only here for twenty minutes. As Hannah stepped inside, Rebecca looked up at her and shushed her. Hannah didn’t know what to say and remained silent. She walked over to Rebecca and crouched down to her. She spoke softly.*
Hannah: Rebecca, it’s me. It’s Hannah
Rebecca: Hannah, te need to get out of here. Deetz will be here soon
Hannah: Deetz? Where is he?
Rebecca: No, don’t go looking for him Hannah, please, just get out of here
Hannah: I can’t. I’m here to save you
*As they spoke, a loud, gruff gurgling sound could be heard from down the hall. Hannah turned, before Rebecca spoke again.*
Rebecca: Hannah, get out now! te shouldn’t be here
Hannah: I can’t leave Rebecca. I came to save you
Rebecca: te want to save me?
Hannah: Yes, of course. We’re friends
*Rebecca gave a scoff, as she looked down at Hannah’s handgun*
Rebecca: te really want to save me, give me your gun
Hannah: What?
Rebecca: te heard me! Give me your gun! If te really want to save me, just give it to me… Please, Hannah!
*Rebecca was not in the mood to talk anymore. Hannah didn’t know what Rebecca wanted to do with the gun. The thought scared her, but she couldn’t ask Rebecca what. She was not willing to speak anymore. And whatever was coming down the hall was getting closer. Hannah had to make a choice right now. It would all depend on Rebecca’s life.*
