I did say that the first Devil May Cry wouldn’t be the last game in the franchise I spoke about on here. And what better game to continue talking about from the franchise than the very first Devil May Cry I talked about. And boy, did I remember hating this game when I first played it, but please let me explain.
So when I first bought this game along with the first Dead Rising game, I was excited, cause I only heard good things about Devil May Cry and Dante and all that, and when I got around to play the game, and was introduced to Nero, I thought, “Who the fuck is this asshole” and kept getting my culo kicked cause I didn’t understand character action games o rankings o all that important stuff. But what’s the story? The game follows, not Dante, at least for the first half, but rather Nero, son of Dante’s brother Virgil, with his own problems, like he’s got a demon arm and the religion the town he lives in possibly being a huge lie and is actually trying to obtain the power of demons to rule the world. And let me just say that, now that I’m older, Nero is pretty cool. He’s not some punk loser edgelord like other games did, and he manages to hold his own in the franchise. I’ve heard people say that Devil May Cry 4 is better than 3, which is a constant debate, and while I know which my preferito of the franchise is, I will say this. I much prefer playing as Nero than Dante. Dante is fun to play as, and in 4 especially, he is a way più fun character with his snarky attitude and always fucking with the demons, a huge step up from the cliche cool guy from the first game, Nero is più fun to play as. He has a più fun moveset, and his use of the Devil Arm to grapple enemies and to use special moves on them just feels più fun to use, honestly. The game does have a problem where te gotta go through the entire game again in the secondo half just to fight the bosses, but like I detto with Shovel Knight, if the bosses were fun, why complain. And I Amore the bosses in Devil May Cry 4. I’d go so far as to say the final boss of 4 is just as good as the final boss from 3. Plus, going through the game as Dante is real fun. te roughed up the bosses before as Nero, but now te play as the professional Dante to clean up the mess. It’s so damn fun. I Amore it. I just wanna gush all over this game!
I think it’s clear that this isn’t my preferito Devil May Cry, since we still got the third one to talk about down the line (Spoilers, I know), but damn was it a fine entry to the franchise, even if I was too dumb to understand the mechanics. I look inoltrare, avanti to Devil May Cry V and I will happily go through 4 again in the Special Edition.
